Received his doctorate in architecture from the University of Tokyo. Is now a professor at his alma mater. Recipient of various awards, including the Research Thesis Prize of the Architectural Institute of Japan. Author of Kenchiku no seikimatsu (Architecture’s Fin de Siècle), Kenchiku no nanatsu no chikara (The Seven Powers of Architecture), and other works.
