Graduated from the Junior College of Tokyo Woman’s Christian University. A novelist; awarded the Akutagawa Prize in 1984 for Hikari idaku tomo yo (To a Friend Embracing the Light). Her other works include Hyakunen no yogen (A Hundred-Year Prophecy) and Suimyaku (Water Vein).
