Completed his doctoral studies in international relations at the Université de Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. Has been an associate professor at the Kyoto University of Foreign Studies. Is now a professor at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. Author of Furansu gendaishi (Modern French History), Posuto teikoku: Futatsu no fuhenshugi no shôtotsu (The Post-Imperial Age: The Clash of Two Universalisms), and other works.
